Marilyn J. Humphrey, 87, of Zanesville, died Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at her home. She was born April 4, 1929, in Zanesville, a daughter of the late Daniel and Tina Howell Maxwell. She was retired from the Lear Corporation after 17 years, and had worked as a nurses assistant for the Good Samaritan Hospital. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher for over 40 years, sang in the choir, served as a Deaconess, played the piano for over 50 years, was a member of the Christian Education Board and of the Priscilla Missionary Circle Church. She loved music, gardening, and spending time with her family and her church family. She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Sue (Douglas) Gabriel; her son, Randy (Marilyn) Humphrey; her son-in-law Dr. Carl (Dee Dee) Dodson; six grandchildren, Eric (Kirsten) Dodson, Renae (Randy) Church, Chad (Tracy) Gabriel, Ben (Christa) Gabriel, Travis Humphrey and Tony Humphrey; a brother Roland Maxwell; a sister Evelyn Leach; ten great grandchildren, Blake, Olivia, Grant, Hunter, Cody, Tiffani, Marshall, Anthony, Brittany and Neko; a great-great grandchild Annika; a dear friend Jim Shrigley; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in passing by her husband Orville O. Humphrey, whom she married December 21, 1946, and who died April 1, 2007; a daughter Ronica Dodson; three sisters, Lois Makin, Ruth Schultz and Mildred Schwartzmiller; and five brothers, Bill Maxwell, Bernard Maxwell, Wilbur Maxwell, Donald Maxwell and James Maxwell. Friends and family may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, and one hour prior to the funeral which will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 22, 2016, at the First Baptist Church, 80 East Main Street, South Zanesville, Ohio, with Pastor Joe Seese officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Orville at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church: 80 East Main Street, South Zanesville, Ohio 43701. She was loved by everyone who had the blessing of knowing her, and her sweet, loving spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
