Mary Rita Bauer

September 30, 1923 — September 2, 2015

Mary Rita Bauer, 91, of Zanesville, died Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at her home. She was born September 30, 1923, at Williamstown, WV, a daughter of the late Walter Phillip and Eda Holdrieth Bauer, and worked with her family in the Bauer Pottery business. She lived on the same farm for 86 years where a brick kiln still stands in her side yard as a reminder of Mary Rita's love for life, memories, and all of the good times. She kept up with politics and all local events, she sang at St. Nicholas and St. Thomas for weddings and funerals for 40 years, she performed in many local shows over the years with a voice that could make anyone smile, and she drove a school bus for West Muskingum Schools for 35 years. No one was ever turned away by this lovely woman who could out work any of us but still couldn't believe all the changes she had seen. She really missed her sister Weezie (Louise) and talked about her often. Mary Rita lived a long enough to see the stone bridge on Route 40 cleaned off and repairs started. This was a goal of hers for years. It is hard to say goodbye to someone who will be remembered forever. Surviving are cousins, Patrick Holdrieth of Dallas, TX, John Wolfe of Mesa, AZ; and very close friends, Al Taylor of Zanesville, and Micky and Diana McNeish of Zanesville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Gertrude Stephens and Louise Bauer; and two brothers, George W. Bauer and Walter K. Bauer. Friends and family may call from 4:00-8:00 P.M., Rosary to be held at 3:30 P.M. with Father Martin J. Ralko of the St. Nicholas Parrish, on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE. A Mass of a Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 144 North 5th Street, Zanesville, with a Dominican Father as celebrant. Mary Rita will be laid to rest beside the rest of her beloved family at Greenwood Cemetery, Zanesville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the West Muskingum Academic Fund: 4880 West Pike, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
