Mary "Ann" (Painter) Carr passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2008 from complications associated with lung cancer. She had recently celebrated her seventy-third birthday. Born August 1, 1935, in Zanesville, the daughter of Robert W. and Mildred C. Painter, (both deceased), she is survived by her husband, Lewis M. Carr, her sister, Rita "Jane" (Bill) (Painter) Woycitzky, two children, Paul (Sharon) Miller and Laurel Caton, four step-children, Stephen (Julie) Carr, Timothy (Barb) Carr, Julie Carr and David Carr and eight step-grandchildren. Mrs. Carr was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, Ohio University and Northeast Missouri State Teachers' College. Her career as a literacy educator included serving as base librarian at Fort Mead in Laurel, Maryland, an elementary school teacher in Lindsborg, Kansas and the program director of Adult Basic and Literacy Education for the former Muskingum Area Joint Vocational School District in Zanesville. Upon retirement, she remained active as a board member for the Literacy Council of Muskingum County, as a board member for the Muskingum County Center for Seniors, and as secretary for the Larry K. Wilson Memorial Scholarship Committee. Mrs. Carr was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, where she enjoyed committee work and her role as occasional auxiliary organist. She and Mr. Carr traveled extensively with friends, enjoyed vacationing annually in Florida, and shared in numerous activities with their children and grandchildren. Friends are encouraged to pay their respects at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville on Friday, August 22, 2008 from 2:00 until 4:00 or 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Louis H. (Rick) Dorsch will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Internment will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. After the graveside service, all are invited to join the family for a luncheon hosted by the Immanuel United Church of Christ, 105 S 7th St., Zanesville.
