Mary E. Fortner, 93, of New Concord, died at 8:03 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Beckett House at New Concord. She was born June 10, 1920 in Zanesville, a daughter of the late James and Bertha Smith Quinn. Mary was a Methodist by faith. Surviving are four daughters, Starley (Elden) Kinnan of South Zanesville, Mary Jo (Junior) Hatfield of Adamsville, Sammie (Jim) Hawk of Utica and Connie (Bob) Allen of Zanesville; a son, John (Roger) Fortner of Zanesville; twelve grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Edward Helriggle and Mikie Lee Fortner; two brothers, Richard B. Quinn and Robert J. Quinn; five sisters, Emma Wise, Helen Horn, Elizabeth Wisecarver, Wilma Jane Turner and Josephine Trimble; a grandson, Gary Hatfield. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Beckett House at New Concord and Genesis Hospice for the exceptional care they provided. Friends may call from noon till the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, OH. Mary will be laid to rest at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Zanesville.
