Mary Louise Shirer, 87, of Adamsville, passed away 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at the Beckett House, New Concord, Ohio. She was born July 7, 1918 near Adamsville, Salem Twp., the daughter of the late Harvey A. and Mary E. Fell Browning. She was the oldest living member of the Adamsville United Methodist Church and a retired telephone operator at the former Adamsville Telephone Exchange. Mrs. Shirer was the co-owner and operator along with her husband, Gerald Shirer of the former Shirer Funeral Home which was located in Adamsville for many years. Surviving a sister in-law, Esther Browning of New Concord, five nephews, Richard & wife Peggy Browning of Sonora, Kurt & wife Bev. Browning of Henderson Nev., Jan and wife Sheri Browning of Fl., Rick & wife Linda Browning of GA.., and Erik and wife Lynda Browning of G A cousin, John and Carolyn Browning of Norwich, seven nieces, Billie and husband Fritz Tender of Hebron, Donna McKirahan of New Concord, Sharon and husband Allen French of Zanesville, JoAnn and husband Jack Hune of Fl., Kay and husband Bob Cobel of Fl. Diane & husband David Newell of CA., and Marilyn Browning of Gallipolis. Her adopted family Floyd and wife Marlene Green, who lovingly cared for Mary Louise and Gerald Shirer, of Adamsville, grandchildren, Skip and wife Debbie Green of Dresden, Vickie and husband Mike Matthews of Adamsville, Brenda and husband Steve Bissett of Coshocton, Lisa and husband Chris Cannon of Adamsville, Tammy & husband Darron Delancey of Zanesville, great grandchildren, Steven, Tiffany, Ashlie, and Dylon Matthews, Kisha and Kyle Cannon, Marlie and Kayla Bissett, Shadley, Shaylee (deceased), and Shirer Delancey, Jennifer, Billy, Kelly, Nicole, Sadie, Tyler, Kevin, Ryan, Braxton, Adam, Andrew, Haleigh, and Hayden Green. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Shirer, and four brothers, Robert, James, Allen and Donald Browning. Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2005 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2005 with the Rev. Bracken Foster and the Rev. Sharon Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at the Adamsville Baptist Cemetery, Adamsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Adamsville Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Squad or to the Adamsville Community Building.
