Mary E. (Labaki) Swope

Mary E. Swope, 94, of Zanesville, died Thursday, November 26, 2015, at her home. She was born June 21, 1921, in Westernport, MD, a daughter of the late Shaheed and Necema Batross Labaki. She and her husband Robert operated Hamline Market from 1945 to 1957. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary Post #29, life member of the DAV and Eagles Aux #302. She started Monday night euchre at the Senior Citizen Center on West Main Street. She is survived by two daughters, Diana McClurg Stivers and Janet (Daniel) Kennedy, all of Zanesville; one son, Russell (Rita) Swope of Zanesville; one sister Martha West; five granddaughters, Jenny (David) McKee, Melissa (Keith) James, Julie (Jeff) Keith, Jessica Glover and Mallory Swope; eight great grandchildren, Trey Hammond, Destiny Hammond, Ryan Egnot, Alicia Dailey, Jade Keith, Jerrod Keith, Abbey Mae McKee and Savannah McKee; two great great grandchildren, Zaydin Moody and Nazir Dailey; two sisters-in-law Marilyn Labaki and Ida Labaki; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Keith Swope, whom she married December 11, 1943, and who died April 5, 2004; a son Robert Allen Swope; four brothers, Charles Labaki, Emil Labaki, John Labaki and Edward Labaki; and a sister-in-law Anna Labaki. Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 29, 2015, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, November 30, 2015, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 144 N 5th Street, Zanesville, with a Dominican Father as Celebrant. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Robert at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Zanesville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church: 144 N 5th Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701; or to your favorite charity.
