Mary Evelyn Turner

Mary Evelyn Turner, 83, of Zanesville, died at 4:08 a.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at the Genesis Bethesda Hospital emergency room. She was born May 3, 1923, in Hopkinsville, Ky., the daughter of the late Houston and Eva Cowan Sisney. Mrs. Turner was a retired school teacher, having taught at the Grover Cleveland Jr. High School. She was a graduate of Georgetown College in Georgetown, Ky and completed her post graduate work at the University of Georgia, in Athens, GA., attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, a member of the Ohio and Muskingum County Retired Teachers Assoc. Mrs. Turner was chosen as Who's Who Woman of the World (1978) and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Turner was named a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar from 1973-1974. Surviving are two daughters, Faythya Buchanan and Georgeann Swope, both of Zanesville; a son and daughter in-law, Philip W. and Vicki Turner of Hopewell; three sisters, Agnes Cleo Bellar of Revenna, Virginia Sharpless of Jasper, TX and Phyllis Hicks of East Ridge, TN; three grandchildren and one great grandson. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. George Turner, who died February 3, 2003. Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2006 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville and one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2006 at the First Baptist Church, South 6th St., Zanesville, with the Rev. Reginald Martin and the Rev. Scott Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at the Zanesville Memorial Park.
