Maxine "Sue" (Ayres) Moore

February 16, 1945 — February 20, 2023

Zanesville

Maxine Suzanne “Sue” Moore, 78, of Zanesville, passed away at her home following a lengthy illness on Monday, February 20, 2023 at 4:45 P.M. at Genesis Hospital Emergency Room.  She was born on February 16, 1945 daughter of the late William Ayres and Maxine McCoy.

Full of energy and enthusiasm for work, she was a true go-getter.  She was a successful business woman as owner of Max & LeRoy’s restaurant in both New Lexington and Zanesville.  She also owned The Lighthouse in South Zanesville for several years.  Specializing in home-cooking, she was famous for her delicious pies and noodles. She always cooked for an army.  Her husband often delivered leftovers to friends and family even after they retired.  You never left her house on an empty stomach.  She loved watching the birds in her yard, mowing the grass and tending to all her flowers.  An avid OSU Buckeye fan and animal lover, she also loved scratch off lottery tickets and “playing” the machines at the local VFW.  She was President Trump’s most vocal supporter and made sure everyone knew it.  She was a grand storyteller and could always make you laugh with her impressions, jokes or simply retelling of a life experience.  Most of all she adored her husband who was her partner in life and in business, her children, grandchildren and her beloved dog, Buffy.  They were the joy of her life and her best times were times spent with them.

Surviving are her loving husband, David L. Moore of Zanesville whom she married June 24, 1996; her two sons, Ronald (Tracey) Wofter, Greg (Babette) Wofter, stepdaughter, Lori (Tom) May and stepson, Davey Moore; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Wofter, Olivia (William) Ray and Sarah (Kevin) Baker; great-grandchildren Owen and Cohen Baker; her four sisters, Madaline “Jean” (Jack) Spence, Linda “Lynn” Davis, Helen “Sunny” Kreps and Billie Bowers; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
