MSG Michael Richard Linn, 55, of Toboso, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 peacefully in his sleep.. He was born on Feb 6, 1957 in Milwaukee, WI to Viola J. Tharp Linn of Newark and the late Richard Lester "Dick" Linn. He graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree from The Ohio State University. He was a Registered Respiratory Therapist and worked in that career for several years with C-P Medical. He also served in the military for 32 years either as a reservist or active duty. Michael returned to active duty in 2007. During that time he became a Master Sergeant in the Ohio Army National Guard. He was deployed 2008-2009 for a year in Iraq, during Iraqi Freedom. When he returned he remained on active duty and became the state coordinator for Combat Life Support for Ohio Army National Guard. Mike also did a tour during Desert Storm. He had many accomplishments during his service in the military. Those who knew Mike also knew that Freedom was why he loved doing what he did. He owned and operated Linn Homecare from 1997-2007. It was then that he returned to active duty. Mike was an avid OSU Football and Basketball Fan. He enjoyed hunting and fishing , but most of all he loved racing and all aspects of it. He loved it most because it was a family hobby and a way for his family and friends to be involved. He raced # 77 Late Model for ten years, and since 2005 enjoyed owning a four cylinder race team with his son Michael, He enjoyed riding his Harley with his daughter, Morgan, that he restored. Surviving are his mother, Viola J. Tharp Linn of Newark; his wife, Joni Lanning Linn, whom he married on October 31, 1991; two daughters, Morgan( Nick Sadinsky) Linn of Newark, Coty Linn of Pensacola, Florida; a son, Michael D. (fiancé Britney) Linn of Newark; granddaughter, Alaina Watson of Wilkens Corner, a brother, Patrick D. (Annette) Linn of Newark; a sister, Cynthia V. (James) Davis of Newark; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews; many special friends, Tyler Frankenberry, who was like a son and Tom Farmer, who was like a brother. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 with Pastor Dean Cole officiating. Michael will be laid to rest at Hanover Cemetery, Hanover, Ohio with full military honors being provided by the Ohio National Guard Honor Guard Detail.
