Myles B. Friel

Myles B. Friel, 89, of Zanesville, died at 4:30 P.M. Monday, March 18, 2013, at Cedar Hill Care Center. He was born March 11, 1924, in Gipsy, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Felix Myles and Anna Belle Smith Friel. Myles was always on the go. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Zanesville Country Club, and member of the Lafayette Lodge #79 F & AM as well as the Zavi Shrine. He was also an avid walker and founding member of the mall Meet-Loaf Gang. Myles worked at Friel Coal Company, Central Ohio Coal, and Horizon Coal. He retired from the coal business in 1987. He enjoyed playing golf and being part owner of the Green Valley Golf Club. He found great joy in attending all activities of his grandchildren with his wife. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and earned a Purple Heart in the Battle of the Bulge. Surviving are two sons, Dr. Robert (Linda) Friel and James (Carol) Friel, both of Zanesville; and five grandchildren, Kevin Friel, Lindsay Friel, Jordan Friel, Jennifer Friel, and Patrick Friel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy Friel, who died on March 2, 2013; five brothers, Roy, Gene, Howard, Bob, and Dick; and one sister, Betty Friel Johnson. Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 P.M. & 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, with a Masonic Service by Lafayette Lodge #79 to be held at 5:45 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 22, 2013, at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home with Rev. Steve McGuire officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Dorothy at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery where full military honors will be presented by the United States Army in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post #1058. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church Foundation: 516 Shinnick Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701. The family would like to thank all the employees of Cedar Hill Care Center who gave so much care, love and support to Myles. He loved all of you and was very appreciative for everything you did for him.
