Nancy A. Calland, 90, of Zanesville, died at 10:17 A.M. on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at the Willow Haven Nursing Home. She was born July 23, 1924, in Columbus, a daughter of the late James M. and Edna Freer Shepard. She received her BA in Theater and Broadcasting from the Ohio State University and was an accomplished singer. She was the store owner of Cheesers' Palace on the corner of Locust and Maple Avenue, and also opened a store in Roscoe Village which became known as The Cheesery. She was active in various theaters in Coshocton, Columbus, and Zanesville, and for several years, was the Director of the Columbus Junior Theater of the Arts. Surviving are three sons, Richard S. (Linda) Calland of Zanesville, Albert M. (Cindy) Calland III of Hilton Head, SC, and Joseph F. (Ann) Calland of Westerville; eight grandchildren, James, Samantha and Charles, Joel and Sarah, and Eric, Brian and Cara; and several great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Albert M. Calland Jr.; two brothers, Bruce and Frederick Shepard; and a sister Betty Price. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 12:00-2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE.
