Nellie L. Balog, of Zanesville, passed away at 12:32 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2006 at Genesis Hospice Morrison House after a 11-month illness. She was born in Noble County, to the late Frank and Beatrice Knott Jennings. She graduated from Caldwell High School and attended Grant Nursing School in Columbus. She worked approximately 40 years in the nursing profession at Bethesda Hospital, Hewitt's Nursing Home and the ODC Nursing Home before she had to retire due to ill health. Nellie was a member of Central Trinity United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Nellie loved family visits and get togethers. Everyone loved her homemade pies, cookies and beautiful cakes. She had a self-taught musical talent, probably from the help of her grandmother, who graduated from Muskingum College with a music major. Nellie played the piano, during her early teen years, for church and social functions. She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn (Richard) Waite of Zanesville; a daughter-in-law, Jolan Balog of New York; six grandsons, Greg (Mindy) Waite, Doug (Mandy) Waite and Mike Waite, all of Zanesville, Buddy (Stacey) Balog, Chris balog and Chad (Lori) Balog, all of New York; eight great-grandchildren, Coulton, Ali, Jaron, Rachael and Allyssa Waite, all of Zanesville; Zack, Nick and Gabbie Balog of New York; one brother, Charles Jennings of Zanesville; one sister, Marian Barnhouse of Caldwell and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, whom she married on October 10, 1936 and died April 2, 1992; one son, Charles David Balog of New York and one brother, Durward Jennings. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2006 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville and one hour prior to services. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2006 at the funeral home with the Rev. Charles Titko officiating. Special music will be provided by Gwen Curry and Sonnie Philip. Burial will follow the service at Sharon Cemetery in Noble County. Memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care, Morrison House, in Nellie's name. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
