Norman T. McCallister, 83, of Zanesville, died at 8:42 P.M. on Sunday, November 15, 2015, at the Genesis Hospital, after a 6 month illness. He was born May 29, 1932, in Nitro, WV, a son of the late Leonard and Pansa Lanham McCallister. He graduated from Lash High School in 1950 and Andrew's Barber College in 1968. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and was stationed in San Francisco, CA, worked as a barber for 48 years at Yankee Clipper, had been inducted into the Muskingum County Country Music Hall of Fame, and was a member of Maranatha Bible Church and the Genesis Board of Advisors. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Hubbard McCallister, whom he married September 8, 1951; two sons, Steven (Becky) McCallister and Matthew (Lucy) McCallister, all of Zanesville; three daughters, Sue (Marty) McLean of Great Falls, MT, Sonnie (Andy) Taylor of Pataskala, and Shari (Patrick) Shreve of Zanesville; seven grandchildren, Heather (Ryan) Barks of Zanesville, Vince McCallister (ReNay Scott) of Zanesville, Rachel (Kristian) Melone of Great Falls, MT, Marshall (Nina) McLean of Spokane, WA, Lauren (Hank) Ring of Zanesville, Tyler Harmon of Zanesville, and Tommy McCallister of Zanesville; five great grandchildren, Caed Melone, McKenna Barks, Addison Barks, Charlie McLean and Riley Melone; two brothers, Byron (Nancy) McCallister and Pastor L. Dale (Joy) McCallister, all of Zanesville; a sister-in-law Gladys Hammonds of Winchester, KY; many cousins and the Lanham clan from West Virginia, nieces, nephews and extended family; and all his friends from McDonald's and the Colony Square Mall. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Charles Ivan McCallister. Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 P.M. & 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, and one hour prior to the funeral which will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 19, 2015, at the Maranatha Bible Church, 2400 Chandlersville Road, Zanesville, Ohio 43701, with Pastor L. Dale McCallister and Pastor Chris Brown officiating. He will be laid to rest at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Zanesville, with full military honors being presented by the United States Army in Conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post #1058 and the American Legion Post #29. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mended Hearts-Chapter 51: 2035 Shady Lane, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
