Patrick T. Fliger

SPOKANE, WA: Patrick Timothy Fliger of Spokane, Washington went home to be with the Lord on November 25, 2013. He was 67 years old, born in Zanesville, Ohio on March 10, 1946, the son of late John R. Fliger and Evelyn M. Winn Fliger. Pat spent his childhood on the family farm outside of Otsego, Ohio, which gave him plenty of stories to tell about growing up on the farm. He proudly graduated from John Glenn High School in New Concord, Ohio in 1964, and soon after joined the Marines where he was just as proud to be a Marine, and serve his country. He actively served In Vietnam where he was wounded and presented with the Purple Heart. After serving four years in the Marines, he was honorably discharged as a Master Staff Sergeant and decided to start a career in truck driving. He was employed by North American Van Lines until he married and started his life, and family in South Bend Indiana, where he resided and worked in various factories in maintenance for many years. During this time he attended the Church of Latter Day Saints. When things got rough with the economy he went back over the road with Crete Trucking Company and worked for them until he retired. After retiring he made his home in Spokane, Washington until his passing. Pat always had interesting stories to share about his life, the places he has been and the people he had met. He was a man who enjoyed the simple things in life, such as being outside, enjoying nature, watching sunrises and sunsets, the stars in the sky at night, hiking and biking, and long walks. He found beauty in every season, he was an avid reader, and enjoyed reading about history, current affairs, westerns, and mysteries. He was never much for watching TV but when he did he enjoyed old westerns, especially anything with John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and Star Trek was a favorite also. In the past he enjoyed playing chess, and reading and collecting comic books. He was a loving and devoted father, and grandfather and would do anything for his daughters, and grandsons. He enjoyed riding bike with his grandson, Braden, and taking grandson, Noah to the movies. He was a kind and caring man and never met a stranger, he will be deeply missed by all. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Nicholas J. Starcher. He is survived by his daughters, Alani (Jeremy) Jarrett of Spokane, Washington, and Kalli Fliger and her boyfriend, Earl of Perrysburg, Ohio; grandsons, Braden and Noah Jarrett of Spokane, Washington; three brothers, Michael (Sharon) Fliger of Lore City, Ohio, Christopher (Ruth) Fliger of Zanesville, Ohio, Jeffery Fliger/Bill Kaplli of Poinciana, Florida; two sisters, Sharman (Mike) Bullemeier of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Lori Starcher of Mansfield, Ohio; 12 nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews; also former wife, Janet (Fowler)Fliger of Indianapolis, Indiana. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE with Mr. Chris Steele officiating. He will be laid to rest with full military honors by the United States Marines in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 at Fairview Community Church Cemetery, Adamsville, Ohio. Memorial expressions of past memories may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
