Patrick J. (Pat) McCarty, 66, died surrounded by family and clergy on June 1, 2005 at Zanesville Genesis Hospice following an extended illness. Born March 28, 1939 in Zanesville, he was the son of Idell McCarty and the late Charles McCarty (1970). He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. He graduated from Bishop Rosecrans High School in 1957 and The Ohio State University in 1961. He served with the U.S. Army Reserve 342nd M.P. Company and the Ohio National Guard from 1962-1968. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1058, American Legion Post #29, Knights of Columbus Post #505, and Eagles #302. In 1996 he retired as a purchasing agent for General Electric Company following 26 years of service in New Concord, OH and Louisville, KY. Prior to his illness he was employed as a driver for Kirkpatrick U.S. Postal Contractor in Zanesville. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, MSgt Brian P. McCarty of Fairborn, OH; a daughter, Kristin McCarty of Zanesville; and granddaughter, Maria McCarty of Fairborn. He is also survived by very special friend Marcia Dunlap of New Concord and his dog Jeni. Calling hours will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 2nd at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 3rd at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas DiFede as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zanesville Animal Shelter and Genesis Hospice.
