Pauline S. Krohn, 80, of Zanesville, died at 12:45 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2008 at her residence. She was born April 4, 1928, in Cleveland, a daughter of the late Saul and Irene Levy Schermer. She received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan and worked as a social worker in Cleveland prior to moving to Zanesville. She was a member of Beth Abraham Synagogue, Zanesville Country Club, the Zanesville Arts Center, Muskingum County Children's Services, Zanesville Day Nursery, where she was on the Board of Directors, Muskingum County Medical Auxiliary, Author's Club, Zanesville Concert Association and Meals on Wheels. Most notably, she served for many years as chairman for the Muskingum County Adopt a Child for Christmas Program, that provided Christmas gifts for needy children. Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Dr. Melvin R. Krohn, whom she married November 7, 1954; two daughters, Susan (Todd) Cahen of Cleveland and Judy (Gary) Terle of Columbia, Maryland; a son, Dan (Mary Lou) Krohn of Cincinnati; 4 grandchildren, Matt Krohn, Hannah Terle, Eric Krohn and Arielle Terle; a sister, Peggy Bookatz of San Carlos, California and a brother, Donald (Judy) Schermer of Cleveland. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until service time at noon, Thursday, October 23, 2008 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville with Rabbi Jeffrey Elson officiating. Burial will follow at Beth Abraham Cemetery. Following the burial service, a meal of condolence will be served to the family at the Krohn home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway #1509, New York, New York, 10018 or to the Beth Abraham Synagogue, 1740 Blue Ave, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
