Phyllis Larraine Sharrer Brister, age 71, of Westerville, Ohio, died at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at Genesis Hospice in Zanesville, OH. She was born August 6, 1933 in Zanesville, OH, the daughter of the late Wallace and Wenona Layne Sharrer. She was a graduate of Lash High School in 1952. Phyllis was enlisted in the U.S. Navy for 2 years, earning a National Defense Service Medal while stationed at the U.S. Naval Station in Newport, Rhode Island. After receiving an honorable discharge, she returned home to Zanesville, OH and met the love of her life, Charles A. Brister Jr. Phyllis and Charles were married for 33 years. She also taught special needs children in Guam, wrote a cooking column in Hannibal, MD, was a gourmet cook, and worked as a receptionist for an investment broker. Surviving, her daughter Kathleen Gale Brister of Celebration, FL; two sisters, Jean Hostetter of Zanesville, OH and Sandy (Jeff) Smith of Zanesville, OH; four nephews, Douglas (Lori) Grissett of Lore City, OH, Scott (Pam) Grissett of Coshocton, OH, Tod (Debbie) Grissett of Nashport, OH, and Derek (Annette) Hostetter of Zanesville, OH; one niece, Diana Stewart of Zanesville, OH; one uncle, Charles R. Morehouse of Santa Maria, CA; one aunt, Donna Faught of Millersport, OH; and several great nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Besides her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2005 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville with Rev Clarence Dinnen officiating. VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold a full military service at the funeral home. Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home and Cremation Service entrusted with all of the arrangements.
