Phyllis Maxine Oliver, 91, of New Concord, died at 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Genesis Extended Care & Rehab Center, Zanesville. She was born June 26, 1917, in Alexander Township, Athens County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Joseph and Clara Scheetz Lowry. Phyllis worked at Valley Hills Nursing Home and the Mark Rest Center. She received her LPN's license in 1968 and retired in 1975. She was elected as president of the Licensed Practical Nurses Association of Ohio, Division 24 of Marietta in 1970. She was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Neelyville and an associate member of the New Concord United Methodist Church, where she did volunteer work in the church office for 10 years from 1983-1993 and served as president of the United Methodist Women. Surviving are a son, Galen Oliver of New Concord; a sister-in-law, Lucille McCune of Logan, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Oliver, whom she married February 5, 1938 and who died in 1976; two sons, Gene and Stanley Oliver; four sisters and two brothers. No calling hours will be observed. A caring cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the Ebenezer United Methodist Cemetery in Neelyville, Ohio with the Rev. Scott McCutcheon officiating.
