Ralph V. Atkinson, Sr., 84, of Zanesville, died at 8:00 A.M. Saturday, October 1, 2016 at his home. He was born April 10, 1932, in Ironton, a son of the late Dillard and Edna Atkinson. Ralph retired from the Tecumseh Product Company, was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church of Zanesville. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and received two Purple Hearts with clusters. He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V., American Legion Post 29 and a member of the V.F.W George Selsam Post 1058. Surviving are his wife, Betty Blankenship Atkinson of the home; a daughter, Beverly (Jim Tyson_ Wickham; a son, Ralph V. (Kay) Atkinson Jr.; Step-sons, Michael Atkinson and Joel (Debbie) Atkinson; grandchildren, Miranda (Brent) Rittenhouse, Kary, Tonia and Eric Atkinson, Angelia (Jerry) Smith and Ashley Gause; fifteen great grandchildren; and a brother, William (Elvie) Atkinson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Howard, Raymond, Dillard and Brady; several infant sisters; a great granddaughter, Morgan Beach; and a step-daughter, Lotus Barker and a step-son, Kendrick Atkinson. Wednesday, October 5, 2016 with Pastor John D. Cottrell officiating. He will be laid to rest at Duncan Falls Cemetery, Duncan Falls with full military honors provided by the United States Army in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and the American Legion Post 29.
