Ray F. Collins Jr., 70, of Zanesville, died at 4:43 A.M. on Friday, April 18, 2014, at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland. He was born September 18, 1943, in New Bern, N.C. a son of the late Ray F. and Minnie B. Scales Collins Sr. Ray graduated from ZHS and OU. His lifelong love of the water started at a young age at Camp Seagull in N.C. Ray was a member of N.A.U.I., a scuba instructor, and loved all water sports including sailing. He was fortunate to do a Trans Atlantic sailing adventure with four other captains and a cruise on the Intercostals Waterway from Mobile, AL to the Chesapeake Bay, MD. With his captain's license, Ray helped cruise the Muskingum River on the Lorena. He was one of several people including George Sharp and Jim Martin to form the Zanesville Yatch Club and he was also a member of the "Happy Island Yacht Club" in St.Thomas, USVI. Ray was president of the Zanesville Jaycees, he belonged to St. James Episcopal Church, Zanesville Rotary, Zanesville Coast Guard Auxiliary, Lafayette Lodge #79 F&AM , Zavi Shrine, The Amrou Grotto, Scottish Rite of Cambridge, Easter Seal Board, Salvation Army Board of Directors, and The Mended Hearts of Zanesville. Ray was also co-owner at one time of Business Equipment Company, which was started by his father, Ray and Charlie Woods. Surviving are his wife Margaret A. Edmondson Collins, whom he married on February 4, 1967; two daughters, Lisa (Michael) Huston of Painsville and Dr. Christina Collins of Minerva, OH; two grandsons, Peter and Matthew Huston. Friends and family may call from 2:00- 4:00 p.m. and 6:00- 8:00p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014 at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE and Masonic Services will be held at 5:45 P.M. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at St. James Episcopal Church, 155 N 6th Street, Zanesville with Father Robert E. Willmann officiating. Ray will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 155 N 6th Street, Zanesville, OH; The Carr Center, 1035 Beverly Avenue, Zanesville, OH 43701, Zanesville Rotary or a Charity of your choice.
