Rev. L. Henry Mayle, 86, of Zanesville, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 1:28 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008 at the Adams Lane Care Center. Rev. Mayle was born September 10, 1922, in Washington County, the son of the late Carroll T. and Annice Croston Mayle. As a boy he grew up on a farm in the foothills of Morgan County. He attended school and graduated from Windsor High School in Stockport Ohio. His residence has been in Zanesville since January 1, 1946. Besides farm work, he worked at the Burnham Boiler Corp., the Gould National Battery Co. and later the Dunzweiler Construction Co. In later years of his life, two heart attacks slowed up the pace of his life. In 1944 he was united in marriage to Geneva Cook Mayle-deceased in 1981. To this union were born three children. In 1983, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Burge Mayle-deceased 1989. In 1990 he was united in marriage to Mary Clifford Wallace Mayle. At the age of fifteen (August 9, 1937), he was converted into the protestant faith. At the age of seventeen he stepped into the service of the Lord; accepted the call to preach the gospel, and has faithfully served in this capacity across the years. Having pastored six churches and engaged in much evangelistic work visiting the sick and shut-ins was his delight. (Hospitals, nursing homes, care centers and private homes). He served two years as president of the South Ohio Conference of the Wesleyan Methodist Church of America. He served two years as president of the Muskingum Valley Holiness Association in Zanesville, Ohio. His life was productive and active, having officiated hundreds of funerals. It was his blessing to have written 850 gospel songs and over 2000 poems. Across those years found him engaged in the service of the Lord by way of radio: Just any way to tell the good news and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. No Christ so real as the Christ of Calvary. Surviving are his wife, Mary Clifford Wallace Mayle, whom he married in 1990; two daughters, Dorothy (Dale) Goins and Gracia (Tony) Hill, both of Zanesville; three step sons, Thomas (Etta) Wallace and Reuben Wallace Jr., both of Zanesville and Raymond Delbert (Crystal) Wallace of Cleveland; a sister, Evelyn Newell of Zanesville; six grandchildren; fifteen step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Geneva Cook Mayle; his second wife, Kathryn Burge Mayle; his son, Ronald Henry Mayle; a stepson, Boyd Wallace; a sister, Gladys Newman and one brother, Paul Mayle. Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 13, 2008 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at the funeral home with the Rev. Terry D. Newman officiating. Burial will follow in Mt Herman Cemetery, Athens County.
