Richard E Allton

Richard E. Allton, 84, of Zanesville, died at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Emeritus at North Hills. He was born April 23, 1927, in Zanesville, a son of the late Lawrence E. and Verna D. Norman Allton. He started working at Bonifield Hardware Store and then retired after 23 years of service as a Postal Clerk for the Zanesville Post Office. He was a member of American Legion Post #29 and Lafayette Lodge #79 F&AM for over 60 years. He was a United States Army Air Force World War II Veteran. Surviving are three daughters, Bonnie (Jon) Dickson of Duncan Falls, Becky (Terry) Halley of Blue Rock and Janice Bowman of Zanesville; a sister, Barbara (George) Pepper of Zanesville; two brothers, Charles (Jeanette) Allton of Ashland and David Allton of Zanesville; five grandchildren, Mindi (Chad) Trout, Keri (Rob) Preston, Terri Ann (Todd) Evans, Tad Halley and Sydni Bowman; six great grandchildren, Zachary and Mallary Trout, Eli and Talon Preston and Emily and Michael Evans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Reeder Allton, who died December 26, 1996; and a son, John S. Allton. Friends and family may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. today, Friday, November 18, 2011 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville where Masonic Services will be held at 5:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Steven Smith officiating. Richard will be laid to rest next to his wife, Joan, at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. The United States Army in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post #1058 will hold full military rites at the graveside.
