Richard Althabers, 85, of Zanesville, died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, December 25, 2008 at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. He was born February 28, 1923, in the Republic of Latvia, the son of the late Karl and Elizabeth Lasmanis Althabers. When Richard came to the United States in 1952, he was a tailor by trade. He retired as a machine operator for Lindsey Wire Weaving Company. He was an avid golfer and played in the senior league at Vista View and loved to play bingo. Surviving are a special neighbor and care giver, Julia Elson and a sister-in-law, Marian Norman of Texas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha C. Althabers, who died May 25, 1985. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, December 29, 2008 at the funeral home with Rev. Tim Patton officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery.
