Richard Lee Cornell Sr., 77, of Zanesville, went to his final resting place on December 27, 2016. Rick was born on June 27, 1939 in Hopewell, the son of the late George E. and Eva Carper Cornell. He attended Zanesville High School and joined the United States Navy at the age of 17. Rick served the country for 26 years retiring at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He also retired from Sears Roebuck and Company after 27 years. Rick is a Past Master of Gage and Gavel Lodge, Past Monarch of Amrou Grotto, and Past President of Zavi Shrine. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling, antique cars, and being with his family. Rick is survived by his wife, Barbara Lane Cornell; two sons, R. Lee (Genevieve) Cornell and George (Katie) Cornell; a daughter, Kelli (Fernando) Cardena; two step-children, Christine (Sean) Herron and Kevin Kamps; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sheila MacLean Cornell and ten brothers and sisters, Marie, Harry, Opal, Georgia, Naomi, Mary, Bill, Lois, Gene, and David. Gage and Gavel Masonic Lodge will hold services at 5:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the funeral home with Rev. Dawn Remster officiating. Full Military Honors will be accorded to him by the United States Navy in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and the American Legion Post 29 following the service.
