Richard LeRoy Spung, 77, of Zanesville, died at 5:10 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Willow Haven Care Center. He was born August 15, 1939 in Toledo, a son of the late Richard H. Spung and LaDonna Schmaus Clark. He had served as a Muskingum County Special Deputy Sheriff, he was also employed at Starlight Industries, Zanesville City Schools and Mid Atlantic Canners. Dick was a member of the Rolling Plains United Methodist Church and LaFayette Lodge #79 F & AM. He is a Veteran of the U.S. Army Military Police. Surviving are his loving wife, Marilee Griffin Spung, whom he married on July 2, 1972; a son, Rich (Carrie) Spung of Chandlersville; two grandchildren Carter and Taylor; two sisters, Carol Gibson of Zanesville and Shirley (Donald) Veyon of Roseville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-father, Lawrence Clark; step-mother, Ocie Spung; two brothers, Garey Spung and Lloyd Farley; and two sisters, Sue McNeal and Sharon Morehouse. Friends and family may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE with LaFayette Lodge #79 F & AM holding Masonic Lodge Services at 5:45 P.M. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, June 12, 2017 with Pastor John Alice and Pastor John Edwards officiating. He will be laid to rest at Williams Cemetery, Zanesville where full Military Honors will be accorded to him by the United States Army in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and the American Legion Post 29.
