Richard Allen Taylor, 64, of Newark died at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at his home. He was born September 10, 1940, in Zanesville, a son of the late Allen H. and O. Marie (Gibson) Taylor. He was a retired school teacher of 30 years which consisted of teaching and coaching at Newark City Schools, Mt. Healthy in Cincinnati, Hopewell-Loudon High School in Northwest, Ohio, Logan High School and Zanesville High School, where he served as teacher and varsity basketball coach. Dick was a sports enthusiast. He played basketball and baseball at Zanesville High School , graduating in 1958. He went on to be a very successful catcher in baseball for Muskingum College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Science. He continued his learning by receiving a Master's degree in Education from The University of Tennessee. In addition to his paid coaching positions, Dick volunteered countless hours helping various schools and colleges with their athletic programs. In addition to sports, Dick had a true passion for nature and animals that can't be explained in words. Surviving are his daughter, Andrea Marie Taylor of Frazeysburg, sisters, Delores M. Tignor of Texas and Carole A. Zeiher of Florida , four nephews, two nieces and many cousins, and a previous wife, Irene Meyer of Columbus. In addition to the above mentioned, Dick is survived by many friends, family and admirers. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2005 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Graveside services will be held at 3;00 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at Zanesville Memorial Park with Rev. Ray C. Morrison, Jr. officiating.
