Richard L. Watson, 88, of Zanesville, died at 6:47 P.M. on Monday, May 11, 2015, at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. He was born January 4, 1927, in Cumberland, OH, a son of the late Cecil R. and Louise Ward Watson. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict, and retired after 38 years as a Postmaster at Midtown Station. He attended Coburn United Methodist Church, was a member of Meadow Farm Methodist Church, Wally Byam Airstream Club, and VFW George Selsam Post #1058. Surviving are his wife Patricia J. Kreager Watson, whom he married July 23, 1950; a daughter Cynthia (Randy) Murgittroyd of Zanesville; two sons, David (Cristi) Watson of Zanesville, and Matthew R. Watson of Zanesville; seven grandchildren, Corey (Jane) Watson, Tadd (Anne) Watson, Keely (Keith) Harper, Adam (Jessica) Murgittroyd, Brittany (Joshua) Driggs, Ryan Watson, and Lucas Watson; a step-grandson Evan Harper; eight great grandchildren, Hunter, Alex, Sophia, Sadie, Celia, Scarlett, Lyla, and baby Murgittroyd; and a sister Mary Bailey of Cumberland, OH. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Icel Watson; a sister Betty Watson; and a brother Dana Watson. Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 P.M. & 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 14, 2015, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 15, 2015, with Rev. Doris Flynn and Dr. Dennis J. Baker officiating. He will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville, with full military honors being presented by the United States Navy in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post #1058. Memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice-Morrison House: 713 Forest Ave, Zanesville, OH 43701; Meadow Farm Methodist Church: 6015 Coopermill Road, Zanesville, OH 43701; or to Coburn United Methodist Church: 3618 Maple Ave, Zanesville, OH 43701.
