Richard Eugene Zinsmeister

Richard Eugene Zinsmeister, 78, of Zanesville, died at 5:50 A.M. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Cedar Hill Care Center, Zanesville after a short illness. He was born December 27, 1937 in Zanesville, a son of the late Byron Zinsmeister and Marie Hodgson Zinsmeister Jenkins. He was career U. S. Navy Veteran from 1956-1978, where he had served in the Vietnam War. Richard obtained the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer, was selected to serve on the USS Hale Submarine and also was chosen to be part of the Antarctica Expedition. He was a member of the American Legion, loved to cook and entertain. Richard was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Surviving are daughters, Dawn Elaine (Gregg) Connell, Tammy Lynn (Peter Cuijpers) Zinsmeister, Beth (Aron)Dotson and Lisa (Ken) Nutter; a son, Michael H.( Molly) Zinsmeister; a brother, Phillip( Barbara) Zinsmeister, a sister, Amy Moore; grandchildren, Matthew Connell, Greg Connell, Chloe Zinsmeister, Gracie Zinsmeister, Joey Zarba, Dominic Zarba, Christian Mahle, Aaron Mahle and Ben Nutter; a nephew, Michael Kahler; great granddaughters, Lynnlee and Emma Connell; and his loving companion, Kristi Potts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Elmo Jenkins. A celebration of Life Service for Richard will be held AT 12 Noon Saturday, April 2, 2016 with calling hours one hour prior to the celebration at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE with Pastor Thomas N. Hayes officiating. Full military honors will be accorded to him by the United States Navy in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and the American Legion Post 29. Following the services it was Richard's wishes to be buried at sea. His cremains will be placed on a ship from Norfolk, Virginia, In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Navy Marine Corps Relief Society, https://donate.nmcrs.org/page/contribute/donate2015.
