Robert L. Archibald, 81, of Zanesville, died at 4:10 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. He was born September 13, 1923 in Leaksville, NC, a son of the late Brainard Lee and Sally Kate Atkinson Archibald. He retired after over 25 years of service as the Business Manager for the Zanesville City Schools, was a former plumber and pipefitter, was a member of First Baptist church, where he had been very active in serving as Deacon, Treasurer and in various other capacities. He was a National Board Member of The American Baptist Convention, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, past president of Kiwanis Club from 1984-1985, past president of Optimists Club, past president and longtime member of Zanesville Country Club, member of Lodge of Amity # 5 F & AM, member of Muskingum Co. Association of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Masons, avid golfer, volunteer at Bethesda Hospital and a member of Zanesville High School Boosters. Bob enjoyed working in various charity organizations over the years including the American Arthritis Association and American Cancer Society. Surviving are his wife, Rebecca ( Becky ) F. McBride Archibald, whom he married June 6, 1946, of the home, a daughter, Catherine ( Robin ) Johnson of New Carlisle, Ohio and a son, R. Edward ( Kathy ) Archibald of Cambridge, eight grandchildren, Alisha, Kari & Nicholas Archibald, Katie, Elizabeth and Benjamin ( Danielle ) Herron and Lauren and Rebecca Lancaster, a step-granddaughter, Emma Johnson and his loving pet, Rambo. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Archibald. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2005 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville and one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2005 at the First Baptist Church, 105 South 6th Street, Zanesville with Rev. Reginald Martin and Rev. Peter Mathewson officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park. Lodge of Amity # 5 will hold services at the funeral home at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
