Robert S. Bednarczuk

December 5, 1947 — February 1, 2025

Zanesville

Robert (Bob) Bednarczuk passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 4:30 pm surrounded by his loved ones. Bob was born December 5, 1947, the eldest child of the late Harvella (Harvey) and Taras (Toddy) Bednarczuk. Bob’s upbringing was also greatly influenced by his beloved paternal grandparents, Walter and Anastasia Bednarczuk.

He married Kaye Taylor Bednarczuk on August 9, 1970. They had been sweethearts since she was thirteen and he was fifteen. Their daughter, Jill, the joy of their lives was born July 28, 1974. Barbara Elaine Lashley shared their home from 1982 until 1987. Barb and her four children and grandchildren were dear to Bob. When Bob was five, his sister Ruth Ann Bednarczuk-DeVine (Bob) was born. Five years later, his brother Roger (Rhonda) was born. Bob graduated in 1965 from Adamsville High School where he was manager of the basketball team and played the cornet in the band. He graduated in 1969 from Ohio University with a degree in teaching and later earned his Master’s degree from Xavier University. Trafford Dick hired him to teach for Zanesville City Schools. He taught for thirty-five years, first at Grant Elementary and then at Grover Cleveland Jr. High. His fellow teachers were treasured friends, and he loved seeing former students when he was out and about. Bob’s favorite hobby was auto racing and his Volkswagen Scirocco with number 39 on the door could be seen parked in the Grover Cleveland parking lot.

In the early 2000’s Bob got involved in local theater and developed a beautiful friendship with director Dorothy Renner. He enjoyed playing in numerous theater productions. Bob was a 4-H member growing up and loved attending 4-H camp. As an adult, he loved being on the adult staff at Camp Ohio, which he did for many years.

Bob’s spiritual life grew to be strong over the years. He was a member South Zanesville United Methodist Church and later First Christian Church in Zanesville where he went on mission trips, sang in the choir, helped on the Property Committee and more recently served as Elder at the Wednesday worship service.

The last several years Bob was a co-leader of NAMI Connection Peer to Peer Support group, which he loved doing.

Bob loved all his aunts and uncles and his nieces, nephews, many cousins, as well as all of Kaye’s siblings and their families. He loved all our South Zanesville neighbors, and his Saturday breakfast buddies were his best friends.

Bob donated his body to Ohio State University for research.

There will be a celebration of life on Valentine’s Day, February 14th at First Christian Church at 11:00 am with Reverend Laureen A. Roe officiating. There will be an hour of visitation from 10:00 am-11:00 am. Following the service there will be a spaghetti dinner free to the public. Spaghetti was Bob’s favorite meal. If rides are needed, call First Christian Church at 740.453.3437. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, Zanesville.
