Robert D. Beitzel, 87, of Zanesville, died peacefully at 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday August 8, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Dover, on January 29, 1925 to the late Ralph L. and Leola Needs Beitzel. Robert was founder and owner of Ace Truck Equipment of Zanesville and Ace Truck Body of Grove City, and owner of Baker Truck Equipment of Hurricane, WV. He was a WWII Army veteran, a member of Elks, the Zanesville Country Club, LaFayette Lodge #79 F&AM, Sertoma, the Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge, Amrou Grotto #45, the West Muskingum Athletic Boosters, and the Muskingum Valley Old-Timers Association. He was also active in the ZHS Tip-Off Club, Ohio State Buckeye Club, a past board member of Good Samaritan Hospital, and a former board member and past president of the Abbot Home Board of Trustees. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His true passions were golf and Ohio State football. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida and taking his children and grandchildren on family vacations. Surviving are his loving wife, Dora McIntyre Beitzel, whom he married on May 15, 1949; a son, David (Nancy) Beitzel of Zanesville; a daughter, Janet (Dan) Geswein of Dublin; four grandchildren, Robert Beitzel of Zanesville, Ann (Kyle) Fleck of Columbus, Michael Geswein of Cincinnati, and Andrea Geswein of Lewis Center; a sister, Irene Bentzel of Phoenix, AZ; and two brothers-in-law, William "Bill" (Betty) McIntyre of Phoenix, AZ and Chuck (Beatrice) McIntyre of Tempe, AZ. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gerald Bentzel. Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 p.m and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday August 10, 2012 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, and also one hour prior at the church. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Central Trinity United Methodist Church, 62 South Seventh Street, Zanesville, Ohio, with Rev. Dr. L. Steven Fewell officiating. Bob will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park with full military honors being conducted by the United States Army in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058.
