Robert W. Bryant (Chemist and Educator) of Zanesville, died on November 3, 2005 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born on May 17, 1930 in Columbus, Ohio. A son of the late Dr. Earle R. and Marguerite (Davidson) Bryant. He attended schools in New Concord and graduated in 1948 from New Concord High School. He served in the U.S. Army during cold war and was stationed in Austria, where he learned the German language. He graduated from Muskingum College in 1954. He began teaching (all sciences) at Batavia High School and coached there as well. He then went to Karlsruhe, Germany to teach and coach. There he met and married Brigitte M. Hopf. Later, he earned his masters degree at Arizona State University. There, his academic interest changed from biology to chemistry. He spent most of his professional life in Zanesville, as a teacher of chemistry and later as an administrator. He also taught night courses in chemistry at Ohio University of Zanesville for several years. Following retirement, he taught chemistry at Armstrong State College in Savannah, Georgia and then State College in Savannah and then finished out his career in Stuttgart, Germany, where he taught chemistry and physics. Mr. Bryant was a Presbyterian by faith and an ordained elder and his hobbies and interests included: dog walking, J.S. Bach, military history, most amateur sports, swimming, travel and weather. He is survived by in addition to his wife; his daughters, Susan L. (Steve) Boyer and Sarah E. Banco, both of Westerville, and son Robert F. (Jane) Bryant of Belmont, MA; grandsons Ken and Kurt Boyer; sisters Eunice (Weldon) Merkel and Leslie Cornella; brother William C. Bryant of Gregory Michigan and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by his parents, Dr. Earle R. And Marguerite Bryant, sister Jane Taracko and brother, E. Ruskin Bryant, Jr. Graveside services will take place at New Concord Cemetery for family and close friends at a later date.
