Robert S. Corder, a retired metallurgical engineer for the National Steel Corporation died on January 28th in a nursing home in Naples, Florida. He was 90. He had congestive heart disease, his son said. Robert Stewart Corder was born in Coshocton, Ohio on August 3, 1914. He attended Duncan Falls High School and was Valedictorian of the class of 1932. He received a bachelor of science in engineering degree from Ohio State University in 1948 after extensive military service in WWII. Mr. Corder volunteered for duty in 1940, campaigned through the Southwest Pacific Theatre and ended his active service as a Captain. He was awarded the Bronze Star. His wife Elda Lois Corder died in 1990. He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Drs. Larry Stewart and Elizabeth Hedlund Corder of Durham, North Carolina as well as numerous other relatives. His second wife Ruth Waltz Corder died in 2004. Mr. Corder was a member of Euclid Avenue Methodist Church, Zanesville, Masonic Lodges 281 and 631, and the American Society for Metals, as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, Zanesville, Ohio from 6 to 8 P.M. on Monday, January 31st. A funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment at Duncan Falls Cemetery will follow thereafter. VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold full military rites at the gravesite.
