Robert A. Derry, age 78, of Zanesville, Ohio, died at 8:30 A.M., Tuesday, December 13, 2005 after a long illness. He was born September 17, 1927 in Zanesville, the son of the late Walter and Hazel Reamy Derry. Mr. Derry graduated from Lash High School, Capital University with a degree in Education and a Master's Degree from Ohio University. He served in the United States Air Force from 1946-1948. He retired in 1980 after 32 years teaching and serving as principal in the Zanesville City Schools. Mr. Derry was a lifelong member of the St John's Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir for many years. Bob also sang in the Messiah for a number of years. He was an avid music lover, having performed in a family orchestra at a young age. Mr Derry was a past member of the Sertoma Club and served as a Volunteer at Bethesda Hospital. Bob loved golf, skiing, traveling, farming and he raised Christmas trees on his 150 acre farm. Surviving are his wife, Carol Todd Derry whom he married March 16, 1947. Two children, Karen (Jerry) Rank of Newark Ohio, Ron (Pam) Derry of Baltimore Ohio. Four grand children, Chad (Melissa) Derry of Villa Hills, KY., Brad (Kristina) Derry of Baltimore, Krista Derry of Baltimore, and Geoffrey Rank of Newark. Two sisters, Margaret (Tom) Caw of Pataskala Ohio, and Eloise (Richard) Johnston of Zanesville. One brother Bryce (Mary) Derry of Longview TX. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 30, 2005 at the St John's Lutheran Church, South 7th St. Zanesville with the Rev. Dr. Alden Towberman officiating. All arrangements are entrusted to the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville.
