Robert William Guard, 84, of Zanesville, died at 5:31 a.m. Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Select Specialty Hospital, Zanesville. He was born September 20, 1922 in Muskingum Co., Ohio a son of the late William Henry and Tina Hartmeyer Guard. He retired after almost 40 years of service at Burnham Corporation. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the 307th Infantry and received the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He was a member of Mt. Sterling United Methodist Church, the D.A.V. and American Legion. Surviving are his wife of almost 58 years; Dorothy M. Ayres Guard of the home; a daughter, Ruth ( David) Rinehart of Tampa, Florida; a son, Donald M. ( Mary Brandel) Guard of Columbus; two grandchildren, Stacy (Scott)Kaszyk and Jarrod Rinehart both of Tampa, Florida and a great granddaughter; Jordan Kaszyk of Tampa, Florida. . Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Ralph, and Edward Guard; four sisters, Clara Guard, Garnet Gebhart, Doris Blamble and Elsie Ruth Shiplett. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m.Thursday, February 1, 2007 at the funeral home with Rev. Charles Norris officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors being provided by VFW George Selsam Post 1058 at Zanesville Memorial Park.
