Robert G. Knowlton, 87, of Lancaster, died at 8:10 P.M. on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He was born December 12, 1928, in Martinsburg, Knox County, a son of the late Ernest and Corynne Williamson Knowlton. Robert grew up in Monroe County and graduated from Beallsville High School in 1945. Robert was a United States Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. Robert was involved in the Ohio Oil and Gas industry, and was owner and operator of Knowlton Electric for over 40 years with locations in Medina, Wooster, Marietta and Hebron Ohio. Upon retirement he passed the family business onto his son Loren. He is survived by his wife, Carole J. Figner Knowlton, whom he married February 14, 2002, of the home; a son Loren (Michelle) Knowlton of Hopewell; two daughters, Virginia Ann Knowlton of Wooster and Mary Ann Hudak of Orlando, FL; two step-sons, Dennis (Carol) Poorman of Austin, TX, and George Clark of Atlanta, GA; three step-daughters, Mollie Alban of Gahanna, Tracey (Randy) Willaman of Powell, and Robin (Charlie) Kelly of Delaware; grandchildren, Taylor and Cameron Knowlton, Nathan Zaglanis, Bobby and Andy Hudak, Elizabeth Alban and Dominik Kerr, Lisa (Kelly) Houser, Joseph (Nicole) Willaman, Rebecca (Evan) Nore, Keith Poorman, Kelly Illig, Ashley (Arris) Rossell, Eric (Cheri) Poorman, Tracy Poorman, Carrie Certain and Aubrey (Chad) Vanderlinden; along with many great grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine (Gilbert) Nething of Hannibal and Patty (Carlos) Mellott of Beallsville. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by two step-sons, Barry Poorman and Michael Poorman; and two brothers, Charles and Franklin Knowlton. Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 P.M. & 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 2, 2016, with Pastor Dean Cole officiating. Immediately following the funeral service, military honors will be presented by the United States Navy in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post #1058 and American Legion Post #29. At a later date to be announced, Robert will be interred at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio. The family would like to thank Dr. Utkarsh Acharya and the staff of the Wooster Medical Oncology Center, a member of The Ohio State University Cancer Network, for their compassionate care and support over the past several months.
