Robert E. Russell, 80, of Zanesville, went to be with his Lord Monday, November 8, 2010 at 2:35 a.m. at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born September 30, 1930, in Zanesville, a son of the late Lawrence and Thelma Essex Russell. He was a 1948 graduate of Lash High School and a graduate of the Leadership Program of the United States Army after which he served in Korea in 1952 with the 25th Infantry Division during the Korean War, where he received the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star Award. Mr. Russell was a member of the First Christian Church, Lafayette Lodge #79 F & AM, The Scottish Rite Association of Cambridge, Ohio and the Amrou Grotto #52. He also served on the Board for the Housing for Handicapped Residents. He retired from the Western-Southern Insurance Company. He is survived by his loving wife 58 years, Barbara Waxler Russell, whom he married January 8, 1952, of the home; a son, Rob Russell of Zanesville; a daughter, Rhonda (Anthony) Landolfi of Florida; three granddaughters, Jennifer, Heather and Amanda Nabb; a great granddaughter, Jayla Marie Richardson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Russell; and two sisters, Ruth Miller and Emma Mae Whitehead. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville where Masonic Lodge services will be held at 5:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2010 at the funeral home with Rev. Dawn Remster officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. The United States Army in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post #1058 will hold full military honors at the gravesite.
