Robert Michael Tanner, 77, of Zanesville, died at 11:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at his home. He was born January 19, 1937, in Zanesville, a son of the late Michael R. and Amelia Monsour Tanner. He was Catholic by faith, a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict, had worked as an Independent Truck Driver. Surviving are a daughter, Tina Tanner of Zanesville; a son Doug Tanner of Crooksville; five grandchildren, Amber Tanner of Houston, TX, J. Marie Cochran of Senecaville, Daniel Cochran of Zanesville, Jeanette Tanner, and Justin Tanner; three great-grandchildren, Danielle, Abigail, and Jace Michael; two sisters, Jan (Ron) Tanner-Thompson, and Sharon Tanner, all of Zanesville; a brother Patrick Tanner of Zanesville; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Deputy Robert Tanner Jr.; a brother Richard Tanner; and a nephew Mark Stephen Thompson. A Memorial Mass will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 144 North 5th Street, Zanesville, with Father Peter Fegan O.P. as celebrant. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Zanesville, with military honors being conducted by the United States Navy in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post #1058.
