Robert 'Bob' Lloyd Wahl, of Gratiot, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House, Zanesville, Ohio. Bob was a New Year's baby, born on January 1, 1944, in Zanesville, Ohio, to John Lloyd Wahl and E. Louise (Lindamore) Stephenson. He graduated from Zanesville High School. In December of 1963, he met a girl at the Sunrise Bowling Alley and found the courage to ask her on a date. On April 30, 1966, he married that same girl, Mary 'Judy' Judith Barks, and they have been together ever since, recently celebrating their 51st Anniversary. Bob worked for many years in the HVAC industry, then for 30 years at the Boeing Company (previously Newark Air Force Base) before retiring. Bob spent his retirement birdwatching, chasing stray cats, enjoying his grandchildren, watching hockey, helping anyone with whatever needed to be fixed, and perpetually building things from Judy's wish list. Despite his argument to the contrary, Bob was one of the most intelligent people we all have ever known. His dedication to family, humble spirit, foundation in his Catholic faith and his desire to work hard are his true legacies. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Robert 'Rob' (Lisa) Wahl Jr., Reverend Fr. Chad Wahl (pastor of St. Anthony in Manteca, CA) and Aaron Wahl, and former daughter-in-law Tammi Wahl; 11 grandchildren: Elaina, Jonas, Rylie, Elias, Lia and Jacek Wahl and Trent, Serj, Noah, Lane and Sophia Wahl; brothers-in-law Charles Smith and David Shinn, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Wahl Smith and Donna Wahl Shinn. Calling hours will be held Monday, November 6, 2017 from 4:00 -7:00 P.M. and a Vigil celebration at 7:00 P.M. at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, Zanesville, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday November 7, 2017 at 10:30am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 925 East Main Street, Zanesville, with his son, Father Chad Wahl as Celebrant, followed by burial at Mt. Olive Catholic cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Trail Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 165, Gratiot, Ohio 43740. He has gone on to his heavenly home; but for those of us who knew him well, our hearts ache at his passing.
