Robert 'Red' E. Wright, Sr.

Robert Red E. Wright, Sr., 101, of Zanesville, died at 11:15 P.M. on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. He was born November 13, 1915, in Columbia City, South Dakota, a son of the late Fred and Ardis Minnear Wright. He came from South Dakota on a box car to Zanesville. He was the owner of E.L. Wright Typewriter Sales & Service since 1936 and was a member of Sertoma since May 1, 1956. He held the office of President from 1971-1972 and throughout his membership in the club, he served in all offices. Red was a United States Army Veteran during World War II and also the National Guard for twenty-two years and a member of the American Legion. He loved to dance, play Euchre and read. He is survived by a son, Robert E. Wright, Jr.; three daughters, Charlene (Donald) Noland, Penny (Steve) Core, St. Clair, Florida, and Susan (Raymond) Kuhn; nineteen grandchildren; thirty five great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie L. Spinks Wright whom he married September 25, 1937 and died May 11, 2004; two grandsons, T.J. Miller and James Noland; five brothers, Oscar, Harold, Fred, Jack, and Oliver Wright; five sisters, Berma, Violet, Gladys, Marion, and Margareet. Friends and family may call from 2:00 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 8:00 P.M. on Friday, October 6, 2017 at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 7, 2017, with Rev. Dennis Allison officiating. Full Military Honors will be accorded to him by the United States Army in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and the American Legion Post 29. He will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville beside his beloved wife, Elsie.
