Rodney David Cox

Rodney David Cox, 83, of Zanesville, died at 11:09 A.M. on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at the Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born September 18, 1931, in in West Lafayette, Ohio, a son of the late Robert and Jeannette Ross Cox. He was a graduate of Jefferson (Dresden) High School. He served in the Army, stationed for over a year in Korea with the rank of Staff Sergeant. The first night of the Korean cease-fire, he walked guard duty on the 30th parallel, hoping everyone had been notified. He worked for Shelly and Sands as a paver operator for forty two years, was a member of Coburn United Methodist Church, Ohio Operating Engineers, life member of the American Legion, and a life member of the VFW. He was also a private pilot for thirty five years and enjoyed flying his own plane. Surviving are his wife Jo Ann Hayes Cox, whom he married November 3, 1956; his children, Judith (John) Shuey of Shelbyville, IN, Andrew (Diane) Cox of Zanesville, and Nancy (Kevin) Shumaker of Dresden; grandchildren, Kelsey (Jon) Graham, Lindsey Shumaker, Morgan Cox, and Ryan Paul Shuey; step grandchildren Jason (Shannon) Shumaker and Jamie Shumaker; a great grandson Luke Graham; and great granddaughter Madelyn Jo Graham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Richard R. Cox; and a sister Janice McKee. Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 P.M. & 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 7, 2014, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, and one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 8, 2014. He will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville, with full military honors being presented by the United States Army in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post #1058.
