Roger Short

Clarence Roger Short, known as "Pop Short" by those who loved him most, entered into heaven on Sunday, August 12, 2012, from Genesis Hospice-Morrison House in Zanesville. He was born February 16, 1941 in Roseville and was the son of the late Leroy and Grandola "Fritz" Young Short. Roger was a U.S. Army veteran who served our country and later retired after thirty years of service with the Newark Air Force Station. He attended Gratiot United Methodist Church, was a member of the Hopewell American Legion, was a Nebraska Cornhusker fan, and was an avid deer hunter. He is survived by his wife Susan Snider Short, whom he married August 15, 1964; one son, Gregory (Amy) Short of Brownsville; two daughters, Lisa (Jeff) Wilson of Gratiot and Monica (Rob) Davis of Zanesville; eight grandchildren, Megan and Jonathan Short, Jordan, Alayna, Ian and Evan Wilson, and Ethan and Nathan Davis. He is also survived by his sister, Patsy Latta of Bakersfield, CA; father-in-law Clyde Snider; brother-in-law Charles (Brenda) Snider; sister-in-law Geraldine (David) Zylinsky; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Ruth Snider, and brother-in-law Ray Latta. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2012 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, which is Roger and Susan's 49th wedding anniversary. Burial will follow at Poplar Forks Cemetery in Gratiot with full military honors being conducted by the United States Army. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gratiot United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 138, Gratiot, OH 43740, or to the West Muskingum Schools Academic Fund, 4880 West Pike, Zanesville, OH 43701.
