Roland "Ron" Reid

Roland "Ron" Reid, 77, of Zanesville, died at 8:20 P.M. Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the home of his younger daughter. He was born July 23, 1936, in Newark, a son of Howard and Agnes Refeld Reid. He retired as a Semi Truck Driver from Economy Linen, and had previously worked for Commercial Motor Freight. He was a United States Marine Veteran, and president of Teamsters Local 637. He was a long time member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where he served as usher and was a member of various committees at the church. Ron enjoyed serving his community in many ways. Surviving are two daughters Shirley (Dave) Culbertson and Dena (James) Schockling, all of Zanesville; four grandchildren Brad (Jodi) Culbertson of Lima, Bryan (Kim) Culbertson of Coshocton, Abby Schockling of Zanesville, and Mindy Schockling of Kettering; seven great grandchildren, Nash Culbertson, Landen Reid Murrey, Boston Culbertson, Kyden Culbertson, Deacon Culbertson, Carter Culbertson, and Calleigh Culbertson; two sisters Charlotte (Paul) Rine of Newark and Esther Moore of Newark; a brother Dallas (Donna) Ferrell of Florida; a special friend Carolyn Pennington of Zanesville; and many other family and friends, too numerous to mention. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Diana Y. Dunlap Reid, who died March 27, 1994; and his father and mother-in-law Thomas and Dorothy Dunlap. Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday, November 8, 2013, at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 400 Pleasant Grove Road, Zanesville, with Pastor Linda Morrow officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Diana at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Zanesville, where full military honors will be presented by the U.S. Marines in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post #1058. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church: 400 Pleasant Grove Road, Zanesville, Ohio 43701; or to Genesis Hospice-Morrison House: 713 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
