Rowland W. Folensbee Rowland Wickes Folensbee, Chaplain, Lt. Colonel, USAF, Retired, died at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 1:30 a.m. He was 85 years old. Rowland was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Flushing, Long Island. He received his education at Rutgers University, Princeton Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and Florida State University (MSW). He served as an airplane mechanic in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the CBI Theater of Operations. He returned to the Air Force as a chaplain in 1951 and retired in 1969 with the rank of Lt. Colonel. In Pensacola, FL he was the former director of the Senior Adult Service at Lakeview Center and the Geriatric Residential and Treatment System. He was active in the Mental Health Association, Interfaith Jail Ministries, Escambia AIDS Services and Education (EASE) and Christ Church (Episcopal). Rowland moved to Zanesville, OH to be near his daughter Suellen Skinner, pastor of Brighton Presbyterian Church. Rowland is survived by Kelly J. (Casey) Walters, his spouse of 27 years and partner-for-life. Other survivors include his son, Rowland W., Jr. (Flossy), daughters Barbara Folensbee-Moore (Rod) and Suellen Skinner, his loving sister Barbara Dee Timmer and her family, grandchildren (Trey, Tyler, Matt, and Meredith Folensbee; Jessica, Mark (M'ylana) and Ray Skinner), great-grandchildren (J'stice and Sadie), and his greyhound Stoney. Rowland was predeceased by his former wife and close friend Adelaide Grier Folensbee and his first grandchild James Lee Skinner. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Brighton Presbyterian Church, 771 Lexington Ave., Zanesville Ohio. "Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a Daddy". As much as he was loved in this world, so shall he be missed. So long Rowland, Daddy, and Pop.
