Roy H. Sarbaugh, 100, of Thornville, formerly of Zanesville, died at 5:11 P.M. on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Altercare Thornville. He was born July 29, 1920, in Gilbert, a son of the late Albert R. and Edna Faith (Barnett) Sarbaugh. He joined the United States Air Force and then transferred to the Army serving during WWII. He retired as owner operator of Wheel Horse Tractor Agency and Longview Gulf Station and was a member of Rolling Plains United Methodist Church in which he held all offices as well as a member of the Men’s Brotherhood. Roy was a longtime member of the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home staff.
He is survived by four daughters, Carol Ann Hoff, Kathleen J. (William) Brooks, Nancy L. (Dave) Green, and Mary Ellen (Tim) Rhodes; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack R. (Faye) Sarbaugh.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ruth E. (Bishop) Sarbaugh whom he married October 11, 1941 and died May 26, 2008; a grandson, Doug Hoff; two sisters, Betty Sarbaugh and Gwendolyn Darnell; and two brothers, Forrest and Donald Sarbaugh.
Friends and family may call from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, December 18, 2020 at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE with Pat Wiseman-Jones and Chaplain Douglas Lynn officiating. He will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville, alongside his beloved wife Ruth. Full Military Honors will be accorded to him by the United States Army in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and the American Legion Post 29.
The family requests that self-provided face masks be worn and social distancing be observed during the calling hours and funeral service.
