Roy R. Young

Roy R. "Bob" Young, 91, of Zanesville, died at 3:30 P.M. on Monday, March 17, 2014, at his home. He was born December 21, 1922, in Zanesville, a son of the late Roy D. and Ida Mae Watier Young. He was a United States Army World War II Veteran, and retired in 1983 after 36 years of service in the Maintenance Department for GE. Bob was a lifetime member of the VFW George Selsam Post 1058, a member of Amity Lodge #5 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge, the Muskingum Valley Old Timers Association, the ZHS Quarterback Club, and the Muskingum County Coon Hunters Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer, but baseball was his real passion; whether he was playing or coaching. Surviving are a son Robert D. (Paulette) Young of Zanesville; three grandchildren, Michael (Dawna) Young of Nashport, Michelle (Gary) Foster of Zanesville, and Melanie Young of Zanesville; four great grandchildren, Logan, Slade, Beau, and Caleb; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Eva S. Sells Young, who died November 1, 1995; and a sister Evelyn Hickman. Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, and one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 20, 2014, with Dr. L. Steven Fewell officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Eva at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville, with full military honors being presented by the United States Army in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post 1058. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice-Morrison House: 713 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio 43701; or to the Y-City Midget League: Century National Bank C/O Mike Whiteman.
