Russell "Larry" Hittle

Russell “Larry” Hittle (The Volkswagen Man), 85, of Zanesville, died suddenly at 8:50 P.M. on Monday, November 6, 2023, at home.  He was born September 21, 1938, in Washington Township, son of the late Walter Sr. and Mary Hittle. Larry served his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963, he was an avid fisherman taking over forty fishing trips to Canada with all of his family, he adored children and absolutely loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, he was known as “The Volkswagen Man” for many years and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife of almost sixty years, Jane Hartman, whom he married July 4, 1964; three children, Shawn (Pam) Hittle, Amy Joseph, and Jennifer (Mike Oyler) Glaub; nine grandchildren, Laura (Joshua Krasky) Sargent, Eric (Rachel Kinney) Sargent, Kinzy (Dusty Puterbaugh) Glaub, Dakota (Alyssa) Shaneman, Corey(Liz) Baker, Morgan (Bo) Faunce, Samantha (Nick Fitzgerald) Landaker, Natalie (Alex Morris) Landaker, and Matt (Brittany) Glaub; five great grandchildren, Olivia (Zach Ross) Kivlehan, Anna Kivlehan, Karson Shaneman, Beau Shaneman, and Kace Sargent;one sister, Peggy Kenley; and his garage buddies, Danny Frame, Mike Rowlee, and Ron Harrison.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lou Kirby and Jo Anne Neal; two brothers, Walter Jr. Hittle and Roger Hittle; three sons-in-law, Michael Landaker, Gary Glaub, and Steve Joseph.

Friends and family may call from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 13, 2023, with Pastor Chris Riggs officiating with.  He will be laid to rest at Washington Twp. Baptist Church Cemetery, Zanesville, with full Military Honors accorded to him by the United States Army in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and the American Legion Post 29 Color Guard.
