Ruth Anna Foltz

April 21, 1924 — January 7, 2017

Ruth Anna Foltz, 92, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed into eternal life the afternoon of Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Genesis Hospital. Ruth was born April 21, 1924 in Zanesville, daughter of Samuel Parks and Florence Olivia Dunn Johnson. Ruth was a 1942 graduate of Nashport High School. She enjoyed and was blessed with a long and healthy life. Her career consisted of being a full time mother and working for twenty-two years as an insurance writer for Cummins Insurance and Madison Collins. She cherished many long summer days boating at Dillion State Park with her family and sometimes life-long friends Jean and Bob Lightle of Chillicothe. Ruth always planned her life around family. She attended many sporting events at West Muskingum and Hopewell High Schools where her husband taught mathematics and was Principal. She was happy and proud to be wherever her husband traveled, which took her too many places including Washington D.C., San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Hawaii. Later in life, when Harlan wanted to take up snow skiing, they joined the Newark Ski Club enjoying winters in Central Ohio and trips to Breckinridge, Holiday Valley, and Vail Colorado. While he skied, Ruth enjoyed the fireplace and comfort of the lodge with friends. She was an avid fan and enjoyed watching the Ohio State Buckeyes play basketball and football. Go Bucks! The TV volume was always raised to hear over the words of encouragement to the players by her daughter. Late in life, Ruth took up knitting as life slowed down. Everything she knitted became a gift to a friend or a family member. Ruth was always a giver. She gave much of her time in her journey of faith to Mt. Sterling United Methodist Church where she was a devoted member, assisted with the Dare to Care Program, and prepared food and her special gravy for church dinners. Ruth is survived by her two children, a daughter, Diana (David) Ables of Nashport, Ohio, and a son Gregg (Linda) Foltz of Decatur Illinois; two sisters, Dorothy Tom of Zanesville and Nancy (Gerald) Fisher of Gratiot, Ohio; three grandchildren, Kim (John) Darnell, of Circleville, Ohio, Mindy (Kevin) Dawson of Decatur, Illinois, Joshua (fiance Megan Edgecome) Irby of Decatur, Illinois; and eight grandchildren, Justin and Jaxson Darnell, Tucker and Halle Smith, Ireland, Griffin, and Hayden Irby, and Cohen Edgecombe. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harlan; a sister Helen (Kenny) Felumlee of Nashport, Ohio; and a sister Mary (Ralph) Felumlee of Hanover, Ohio. Friends and family may call from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 and one hour prior to the service at to be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville with Pastor Ron Griffin officiating.
