Ruth E. Myer

April 12, 1921 — May 4, 2009

Ruth E. Myer, 88, of Zanesville, died at 6:30 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2009 at her residence. She was born April 12, 1921, in Oakfield, Ohio, to George and Esther Frazier Triplett. She then moved to Corning, Ohio, where she went to school and spent most of her childhood. She later moved to Zanesville, where she attended high school and married Charles E. Myer in 1940. They had 2 children, Jon Brent and Cheryl Jane. They moved to California in 1963 and she then moved back to Zanesville in 1998. Ruth had a very interesting life, having memberships in the First Christian Church, Art Association, Z.A.P.P., and the Art Center in Zanesville. She was an avid artist displaying her works at Ohio University, Teachers Credit Union, and Java House to mention a few. She carried the Olympic Torch in Camarillo, California on its way to the Olympic Games, ushered at the Music Center in Los Angeles, visited the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California and touched the Berlin Wall. She had occasions to meet many movie stars while in California. After the passing of her husband in 1969, she went to nursing school, and graduated at the age of 47 and also took Driver's Ed., getting her drivers license for the first time. She then worked at Gardena Memorial Hospital for 15 years, where she retired. She had the opportunity to see many operas by San Francisco Opera Company, saw many concerts and Broadway shows, sang in the Senior Choir in Simi Valley, California and volunteered at many functions involving fund raising events for the Senior Center. She always tried to leave a place where she worked or lived - a better place than when she had arrived. Her most memorable time was spending 7 years working in the hospital with Alcoholics and drug abusers, trying to counsel them for a better life and coping with their illnesses. She was a devout Christian and enjoyed going to church and the various programs the Church presented. She was a Sunday School teacher and also kept the church nursery for 8 years. She enjoyed working cross-word puzzles to keep her mind alert and watching "Survivor". She is at peace now and with her Savior. Ruth is survived by her two children, Jon (Betty) Myer and Cheryl (Janie) Carrillo; 8 grandchildren, Rosie (Tim), Robin (Bob), Lori, Nelson Jr., Jill (Karl), Gilbert Todd (Heather), Michelle (George) and Michael; 16 great grandchildren, Peter, Gerod, Shelby, Brandon, Brytnee, Bobbieleah, Robert Jr., Nicole, Alex, Dean, Kayla, Ryan, Kyle, Keira, Kaitlyn and Matthew; 3 great-great granddaughters, Erin and Ashland Smith and Madison Armantrout; 4 nieces; 2 nephews; and brother and sister-in-law, Don and Madge Myer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ernest Myer Jr.; two sisters; a brother; and a great granddaughter, Isabella Eileen Carrillo. No calling hours will be observed. A caring cremation has taken place. A celebration of the life of Ruth will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville with Rev. Dawn Remster officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Memorial Fund" for Ruth Myer at the First Christian Church, 3000 Dresden Road, Zanesville, Ohio, 43701.
