Ruth Eleanor Swope, 93, of Zanesville, died at 1:05 a.m. Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the Beckett House in New Concord. She was born June 7, 1915, in Zanesville, a daughter of the late Alfred G. and Frieda Woerner Wayte. She was a retired nurses assistant for Bethesda Hospital and was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, was a volunteer at Adamsville Elementary and was a 50 year election poll worker in Muskingum County. Surviving are a daughter, Nancy S. Swope of Glenford; two sons, Ronald E. (Betty) Swope of Byesville and Gary F. (Margie) Swope of Lancaster; 7 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 8 step great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 9 step great-great grandchildren; a devoted sister-in-law, Betty M. Tilton of Zanesville and a special friend, Clarence (Brickie) Oliver of Adamsville. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos E. Swope, who died February 27, 1983; two sisters, Violet Snyder and Betty J. Beachy and two brothers, Walter and Bobby Wayte. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2008 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2008 at the funeral home with the Rev. Mitch Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
